What We’re About

Medical Bootcamp explores proven communication methods that improve patient understanding and health outcomes.

We are a resource for frontline medical practitioners helping to support clearer and more effective communication at the patient–practitioner interface, translating complex clinical language into everyday, understandable dialogue.

Our goal is to enhance communication skills and knowledge relating to balance, variation, and illness within the human body. This resource is intended to support healthcare professionals in improving interactions with patients by transforming high-level clinical concepts into language that is easier to understand.

We recognise that healthcare practitioners must often adapt their communication style to meet the needs of each individual patient. Effective dialogue requires flexibility and the ability to tailor conversations so that every patient can achieve a clear understanding of their condition and care.

This website was inspired by a 23-year-old young man who has lived with Type 1 diabetes since the age of three.

His courage in explaining how he has coped with the condition, and the deeply personal emotions associated with living with chronic illness, inspired the development of this resource. After researching autoimmune diseases for over two decades and undertaking extensive study during the past two years, we realised that although the knowledge existed, it was difficult to communicate it in a clear and accessible way.

Following a Medicines Use Review with this young man, we recognised that this knowledge needed to be documented and shared to help future generations. The kindness of the autoimmune community, and the willingness of patients to share their most difficult experiences with others, motivated us to create a helpful and supportive resource.

Our aim is to provide information that is easy to understand, helping people learn what is happening inside their bodies and how they can take greater responsibility for their own health. One of the most powerful insights we gained was understanding how many autoimmune patients feel on a daily basis and their desire to speak with someone who truly understands what it is like to live day-to-day with an autoimmune condition.
